  Ghata Sthapana is the main ritual on the first day of Navaratri. It marks the beginning of the festivity for nine days. Ghata Sthapana is done to invoke Goddess Shakti and the ritual is prohibited during Amavasya and night time and any time beyond 16 ghatis after sunrise.
